DOWA THT AMERICA, INC. manufactures a wide variety of furnaces for various processes. These include smaller batch furnaces; allowing for smaller volumes and more flexibility in processing; large continuous furnaces allowing for high-volume production while maintaining a consistent atmosphere and temperature; and vacuum furnaces, for better sustainability both within the facility and globally. These furnaces are capable of the following processes: carburizing, nitriding, carbonitriding, GSN, annealing, and normalizing.

With a 100-employee headcount in the Ohio facility, DOWA THT America (DTA) is a subsidiary of a global company with diverse ventures enhancing many different aspects of everyday life. The larger DOWA group is involved in mining, metals, electronics, recycling, waste disposal, and heat treat. Dowa’s continued growth in these categories covers four continents and allows people all over the world to improve their lives with Dowa’s contributions. Quality and safety are the two most important values at Dowa.

Two separate divisions

DOWA THT America was established in 1997 and began production in 1998. The operation in Bowling Green, Ohio, is the sole facility in the United States and operates two separate divisions. One division is commercial heat treatment, which operates on site and has expanded four times since the original building was built. This location houses 24 batch furnaces, four temper furnaces, six vacuum washers, and two continuous furnaces, the majority of which are Dowa brand equipment. The second division is the furnace equipment division which is tasked with the design, manufacture, installation, and maintenance of all domestically sold equipment. The overwhelming majority of equipment sold, and parts being processed in Dowa’s commercial heat treatment facility, are for the automotive industry, but other sectors such as construction, agriculture, enviro-friendly energy production, and more cutting-edge industries have also been serviced.

An advantage for Dowa in North America is an onsite furnace equipment division. This allows for not only sales, but maintenance and technical support as well for customers. Customers serviced by the Bowling Green facility cover both North and South America. Dowa’s service ranges from Canada all the way to Brazil. Dowa’s equipment division sells, installs, starts up, and performs both preventative maintenance and emergency maintenance.

Turnkey operation

The greatest advantage with Dowa is it’s a turnkey operation. From design to production, Dowa manufactures all the equipment and is capable of handling all the shipping, duties, and installation.

Dowa’s facility in Bowling Green has a patented QSQ quenching process that has been developed to reduce distortion. Dowa has reduced many after-process steps for customers with this patented process over the years.

The Bowling Green site is unique in the fact that Dowa’s commercial heat treatment division and furnace engineering division both operate out of the same facility. This structure offers potential customers the opportunity to visit and observe operating furnaces and the visual flow of the heat treat process prior to purchase.

Dowa is a company that is a leader in a multitude of industries and continues to develop new technology year after year. Dowa is able to design equipment to special specifications required by customers including safety features to protect customer employees.

Special project

Last year, Dowa installed a recently innovated proprietary furnace, the Cell Type Vacuum Carburizing Furnace, at a customer location in the U.S. This was a special project for Dowa as it marked the first time this cutting-edge technology was adopted in the country. The project involved close collaboration with the customer to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of the furnace. The new furnace reduces the carbon footprint of heat treatment process while maintaining high quality and productivity. This installation emphasizes Dowa’s commitment to delivering advanced solutions and customer-centric service to its clients, further strengthening Dowa’s presence in the American market.

In addition to its U.S. location, Dowa maintains a heat treat facility in Mexico. The Mexico facility became operational in 2015 and continues to grow. Whether companies choose to produce in the USA or Mexico, Dowa’s North American facilities are well placed to work together and accommodate any needs the customer may have in either country.
