L&L Special Furnace Company recently got an order for two large front-loading box furnaces that are slated to be shipped to an R&D facility in the Midwest. The furnaces will be used for a variety of product development in the ceramic and ceramic composite fields. They are scheduled for delivery late in the second quarter of calendar year 2024.

Rated for 2,000°F operation with an effective work zone of 48” square, the furnaces are equipped with a PLC-based program control, temperature recorder, vertical-/guillotine-style door and universal loader for both pieces of equipment. The hearth consists of a series of castable piers with a thick alloy hearth to support the product.

L&L enjoyed a busy 2023, with strong sales of new equipment mostly in the aerospace and composite segments. This part of the market is constantly expanding as new composites and processes for those composites become more in demand.

Changing process requirements and expansion in this space have created a tremendous amount of opportunities for L&L. The company’s goal for 2024 is to continue to help customers with all of their thermal requirements — from small, “bring your heat-treating in-house” jobs to customized, larger assignments. The company continues to skillfully position itself to best help its customers moving forward.

L&L’s diversity allows for a wide selection of thermal processing equipment. Its strong presence in the heat-treating field, aerospace industry, high tech ceramic, space, and medical and automotive sectors enables the company to provide products to many businesses in the thermal application market.

All L&L furnaces can be designed with various options and be specifically tailored to meet customers’ thermal needs. The company also offers furnaces equipped with pyrometry packages to meet ASM2750.

Options include a variety of control and recorder configurations. A three-day, all-inclusive startup service is offered with each system in the continental United States and Canada. International startup and training service is available by factory quote.
