Two Vector® vacuum furnaces are scheduled to be delivered to a national Mint in Europe. This is the eighth mint to choose Seco/Warwick solutions.

The Vector furnaces will be used to harden the dies necessary for the production of coins for both circulation and collector series.

Vector vacuum furnaces with 15 bar high-pressure gas quenching perfectly match the mint’s operating characteristics. Vector enables fast heat treatment while the working space is optimal for the production of dies, coins, medals, and orders. The Vector line of vacuum furnaces with a round graphite heating chamber can be used for most standard hardening, tempering, annealing, solution heat treatment, and brazing processes. They provide intense and uniform gas cooling, which guarantees high hardness and durability of mint tools. The perfect surface quality of the stamped coin and other products is ensured by a very high purity of the vacuum atmosphere.

The Vector furnace is the mint’s first choice, as it fits the operating characteristics in the scope of hardening dies necessary for coin production. The furnaces for the European Mint have a compact heating chamber which enables efficient heat treatment of all sizes of the customer’s dies. This partner has purchased furnaces similar to the designs supplied in recent years by Seco/Warwick to the Egyptian and the Polish Mint.

“Mints are institutions of high trust; hence quality, reliability, and precision are also our, and our partner’s, qualities. Why? Because mints produce products of the highest quality, which must be perfect in terms of details and production repeatability,” said Maciej Korecki, vice president of vacuum furnaces segment in Seco/Warwick. “The client has ordered two twin furnaces which will ensure the mint’s complete production independence. It is worth mentioning that security printing works and mints cannot outsource their production, therefore purchasing services from hardening plants is not possible. Moreover, the mints must have reliable equipment, so additional protection in the form of two furnaces will fully secure the partner in terms of production.

“We are pleased that once again our flagship product — the Vector vacuum furnace — will be installed at the national mint. The delivery is the result of very good recommendations, which in this narrow industry are an important selection argument. It is worth adding that Seco/Warwick solutions operate in mints in the United States, Egypt, Canada, Poland, Brazil, Turkey and China. For national mints, Seco/Warwick furnaces are the first choice.”

In addition, the new furnaces will be equipped with the highest-quality high vacuum, ensuring much better process cleanliness and thus the quality of heat-treated details’ surface.

Mints must adhere to strict standards that guarantee the weight, purity, and nominal value of the products they manufacture.
