For more than 90 years, ASM International has recognized the achievements of individuals and organizations that contribute to materials science and engineering.
ASM International established the honor of Fellow of ASM (FASM) in 1969 to provide recognition to members for distinguished contributions in the field of materials science and engineering, and to develop a broadly based forum for technical and professional leaders to serve as advisors to the Society.
Nominations are being accepted for the 2023 class of Fellows.
Criteria for the Fellow award are:
- Outstanding accomplishments in materials science or engineering.
- Broad and productive achievement in production, manufacturing, management, design, development, research or education.
- Five years’ current, continuous membership.
Many people are qualified to be an ASM Fellow but have not been nominated. Please consider members to nominate who have not been honored as FASM, yet whose accomplishments merit such recognition. The deadline for Fellow nominations is November 30, so please help ASM to ensure that its Fellows reflect the diversity of the world that we serve.

ASM International is the world’s largest association of materials-centric engineers and scientists. It is dedicated to informing, educating, and connecting the materials community to solve problems and stimulate innovation around the world.
