Tooling 2025
March 24-26, 2025 I Trento, Italy
The 13th International Tooling Conference, organized by ASMET, the Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials, will be a continuation of a long-established philosophy of providing a forum for practicing engineers and researchers to exchange their ideas and experiences in all aspects in the field of tooling, as well as giving practitioners an opportunity to keep up-to-date in the latest developments in production and application of tooling materials. The conference also will provide an excellent forum for researchers to present their work and enhance the transformation to industrial application. The upcoming 13th international Tooling Conference will be dedicated to sustainability in the field of tooling.
Plenary speakers include:
- Benedikt Blitz, managing director, SMR Premium GmbH: What’s ahead for remelted Tool steels and update on PM & AM Tool steels.
- Michael Ebner, head of Environment and Investments & Developments, voestalpine BÖHLER Edelstahl GmbH & Co KG: Sustainable tool steel production – global challenges and solutions.
- Hardy Mohrbacher, owner and managing director, NiobelCon bvba: Sustainable and secure molybdenum supply for the European tool steel industry.
- Johan Pilthammar, Volvo Cars, technical expert in the area of Simulation Driven Stamping Development & Blekinge Institute of Technology, Assistant Professor: Die Technology, Sustainable Materials, and Smart Industry at Volvo Cars.
- Hans-Willi Radt, CEO, FRED GmbH, prosimalys GmbH: Sustainability of Tool Steels: PCF calculation of Tool Steels, the Impact of Tool Steel PCF for the PCF of the products made with them and how to reduce Tool Steel PCF.
Tooling 2025 continues to commemorate Prof. Hans Berns, one of the founding fathers of the Tooling Conference, through the Hans Berns Award. This award will be given to a young researcher who is the author/co-author and presenter of one of the full papers at Tooling 2025. A jury will select the awardee based on the scientific merits of this paper. Interested researchers who are younger than 35 can apply for the HANS BERNS Award 2025.

Third International Conference on Quenching and Distortion Engineering
May 6-8, 2025 I Vancouver, Canada
The Third International Conference on Quenching and Distortion Engineering will be in conjunction with AeroMat 2025, May 5-8, in Vancouver, Canada. This is a continuation of the successful Distortion Engineering conference series and the Quenching and Distortion conference series. The first QDE was in Chicago in 2012 and occurred at approximately five-year intervals. There is a strong focus on the effects of residual stress during manufacturing and methods to control distortion and residual stress.
Beyond the enlightening sessions and informative presentations, attendees can connect with peers during breaks, receptions, and special networking events. Moreover, the co-located exhibit hall, featuring cutting-edge technologies and products from AeroMat, ITSC, and AeroTech, will provide an ideal setting for fostering new relationships and exploring potential collaborations.
QDE will be co-located with AeroMat 2025, AeroTech 2025 and the International Thermal Spray Conference and Exposition (ITSC) 2025. The conference hotel is the Fairmont Waterfront.

Motion in Heat Treatment — Heat Treatment in Motion & European Conference on Heat Treatment 2025 (ECHT 25)
June 4-6, 2025 I Prague, Czech Republic
The ECHT 2025 Conference and the 5th International Conference on Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering in Automotive and Transportation Applications will be in Prague in the Kaiserstein Palace. The European Conference on Heat Treatment (ECHT) is organized by heat-treatment associations in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Switzerland. They are dedicated to the knowledge transfer between research and practice and the exchange of experience among engineers and scientists.
This conference is the fifth in its series. This event follows the 3rd conference in Prague in 2016 and the 4th conference in Spartanburg, South Carolina. While the previous focus of the event was primarily on automotive applications, the focus has been widened to all transport applications including automotive, rail, and aircraft and marine applications of heat-treated and surface-engineered components. The event is combined with the European Conference on Heat Treatment.
The Aichelin Young Speakers Award will be given at this conference for the best talk by a speaker younger than 35 on an issue of high scientific or commercial relevance with implication for the industrial practice. The award includes a 1,500 euro prize.
The Burgdorf Poster Award is awarded to the best poster and will be announced during the conference and in the reports. Posters are valued as equally as oral presentations. They give the chance to present results, graphs, and pictures in a non-transient form and discuss them with the participants during the dedicated poster session or any other time.
