There’s no question that we are living in times of uncertainty. But IHEA is committed to focusing on the issues that matter most to our industry. For the past few years, sustainability and decarbonization have been on everyone’s mind. In recent discussions with the IHEA membership, while the urgency may have somewhat subsided, they strongly agree energy efficiency and decarbonization remain a key concern for those involved in thermal processing.

Europe and Asia are not changing their focus, and many feel it’s important that we do the same. During IHEA’s first Decarbonization SUMMIT last year, the audience valued the information and asked for more. That is what IHEA will deliver in September at the 2025 Industrial Heating Decarbonization SUMMIT.

As the program is being finalized, presentations have been selected that are designed to help the industry continue on the path of becoming more energy efficient while working to decarbonize their processes. Here’s a quick look at presentations already confirmed for the SUMMIT:

  • In-Plant Energy Management Audit.
  • Environmental Risk Communication for the Thermal Processing Industry.
  • Siemens First All-Electric Paint Line.
  • Timken Case Study.
  • Nucor Case Study – Reducing Carbon Footprint.
  • Recent Hydrogen Installation in Europe.
  • Carbon Emission Estimation Tool.
  • Overview of U.S. State Policies & Mandates Related to Decarbonization.
  • Practical Decarbonization Processes in Foundries & Steel Mills.
  • Hydrogen Combustion: Past, Present & Future.
  • Reducing Fuel Consumption & the Impact of Automation, Controls & Ancillary Equipment.
  • Green Line for Materials Life Cycle.
  • Decarbonization in the Forging Industry Case Study.
  • Reducing, Converting, and Trading to Get to Lower Carbon Emissions.
  • Carbon Capture.
  • Sustainability in Thermal Processes, Including Nitriding.

“Last fall, IHEA’s first SUMMIT delivered a well-received program focused on decarbonization trends across our industry,” said IHEA president Gary Berwick of Dry Coolers. “Building on that momentum, we are finalizing the program for the 2025 SUMMIT, which will showcase peer success stories in significantly reducing or eliminating carbon from their operations. Together, we’re focusing on the future by highlighting the most effective strategies driving energy innovation in our field.”

IHEA’s Monthly Economic Update Revamped

Since 2010, IHEA members have enjoyed a thought-provoking economic update from our economist, Chris Kuehl. The reports are now taking a bit of a different angle. Instead of looking back at what happened in the past month, the report now includes a forecast that helps IHEA members prepare for what’s ahead.

“People were telling me that while the information has been very valuable, it could be improved by including a future-forward forecast that should help companies in their strategic planning,” Kuehl said.

The monthly reports have always been appreciated and provided good information, but in this time of uncertainty, the monthly reports members receive are becoming an even more important business tool. This valuable resource is only available to IHEA members as a member benefit. If you haven’t looked at IHEA membership recently, take a moment to review the benefits that include the monthly economic report at  www.ihea.org/page/Benefits.
