Dipl. Ing. Gunther Schmitt
studied materials technology at the University of Applied Sciences in Giessen-Friedberg, Germany. In 1987, he started as materials engineer for Degussa AG in Hanau. In 1991, the division was renamed to Leybold Durferrit (later ALD Vacuum Technologies GmbH), and he was responsible for the metallurgical laboratory. In 1992, he worked as application engineer for heat treatment. Since 2008, he has been the senior process engineer for ALD Vacuum Technologies GmbH. He is strongly involved in the development of low pressure carburizing and high pressure gas quenching.
