AWS Foundation presents 19 schools with grants

With a high need for welders in the manufacturing and construction sectors, the American Welding Society (AWS) Foundation supports schools training the next generation of welding professionals.

The following 19 schools were recently selected by the AWS Foundation to receive grants of up to $25,000 to expand trainingfacilities, purchase welding or metalworking equipment, or upgrade computers and computer- based training systems:

  • Denver High School – Denver, Iowa.
  • Eastern Pulaski Community School – Winamac, Indiana.
  • Fort Atkinson High School – Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.
  • Hampton University – Hampton, Virginia.
  • Lamar Institute of Technology – Beaumont, Texas.
  • Moraine Valley Community College – Palos Hills, Illinois.
  • Power Technical Early College – Colorado Springs, Colorado.
  • School District of Rhinelander – Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
  • Schuylkill Technology Center – Mar Lin, Pennsylvania.
  • Southwest Technology Center – Altus, Oklahoma.
  • Sugar Salem High School – Sugar City, Idaho.
  • Sullivan County Department of Education – Blountville, Tennessee.
  • University Of Alaska-Southeast (SITKA) – Juneau, Alaska.
  • Walla Walla Community College – Walla Walla, Washington.
  • Washington County Career Center – Marietta, Ohio.
  • Westbrook High School – Westbrook, Connecticut.
  • Wayne State University (Detroit Section Grant) – Detroit, Michigan.
  • Clarke County High School (Mobile Section Grant) – Grove Hill, Alabama.
  • Wewahitchka High School (Mobile Section Grant) – Wewahitchka, Florida.

“All across the country, graduates of welding schools are in high demand, and it’s an ongoing challenge for schools to train enough individuals to meet the needs of local industry,” said Monica Pfarr, executive director of the AWS Foundation. “We are pleased to support the expansion of these schools’ welding programs and applaud their commitment and dedication to cultivating the next generation of welding technicians and professionals.”

The American Welding Society, through the AWS Foundation, supports programs to ensure the growth and development of thewelding industry through education, research, and workforce development. Last year, the AWS Foundation awarded more than $3 million in grants and scholarships to support welding education.
