Special Springs, a leader in the manufacturing of high-quality springs and gas cylinders, has partnered with Nitrex again to expand their production capabilities.

This collaboration, which began in October 2004 with the commissioning of the first Nitrex nitriding turnkey system, has flourished with the installation of an NXK series furnace.

Headquartered in Italy, Special Springs has been at the forefront of innovation in wire die springs, nitrogen gas springs, manifold cylinders, and custom springs. Their products play a crucial role in diverse industrial applications including automotive, appliance, agriculture, and heavy equipment. By adding to their production capabilities, Special Springs aims to meet the demands of global customers while driving continuous improvements in quality and efficiency.

In July 2024, Romano d’Ezzelino Special Springs installed the compact NXK-812 furnace to accommodate increased capacity and optimize production efficiency. This turnkey system is not just a piece of equipment; it incorporates the latest in transformative heat treatment technologies, including Nitreg and ONC. Nitreg, known for its capability to improve surface hardness and wear resistance of metal components, is crucial for extending the lifespan and enhancing the performance of springs. ONC is a post-oxidation process that follows nitriding, creating an additional protective layer of iron oxide on the treated surface. This enhances corrosion resistance, making it ideal for components that require additional functional performance and aesthetic appeal.

The NXK-812 furnace boasts a load capacity of 1,200 kg (2,600 lbs), and its compact design makes efficient use of restricted floor space in a plant. The two furnaces work alongside each other, using interchangeable material handling equipment to ensure continuity and efficiency in their production process. Equipped with advanced remote monitoring and control software, the NXK-812 allows Special Springs to maintain operational oversight, optimizing processes in real-time.

Special Springs’ decision to return to Nitrex after twenty years underscores its confidence in Nitrex’s proven technology and exceptional support. This strategic collaboration not only reinforces Special Springs’ commitment to operational and product excellence but also positions them for continued growth and innovation in the global market.

“Our journey with Special Springs exemplifies the synergy achieved through strategic collaboration, advanced heat treat technologies, and exceptional support,” said Marcin Stoklosa, technical sales manager – EMEA region at Nitrex. “Their decision to expand with a second Nitrex system highlights the strength of our solutions and the trust we’ve built over the years. We look forward to seeing future advancements supporting advanced gas springs.”
