The ASM Heat Treating Society (HTS) and the International Federation for Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering (IFHTSE) present the highly anticipated 29th IFHTSE World Congress, a premier global event dedicated to advancing the fields of heat treatment and surface engineering. Co-located with ASM’s Annual Meeting, IMAT 2024, the congress is scheduled for October 1–3, in Cleveland, Ohio.

The 2024 IFHTSE World Congress revolves around the theme “Innovations in Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering for a Sustainable Future.” Emphasizing the critical role of these technologies in shaping a sustainable world, the event will explore the latest developments, breakthroughs, and practices that can enhance the efficiency, performance, and environmental impact of heat treatment and surface engineering processes. In addition, traditional heat treating topics will be offered.

Conference highlights

Monday keynote, September 30: This will be given by IFHTSE Medalist Professor Tadashi Furuhara with the Institute for Materials Research (IMR), Tohoku University. The topic will be “Alloying effects on microstructure development in high strength steels — from bulk to surface.”

Tuesday keynote, October 1: This will be given by IFHTSE Fellow Professor Sabine Denis with the Université de Lorraine. The topic will be “Heat Treatment Numerical Simulations: from the Early Works to Today’s Achievements and Perspectives.”

Wednesday keynote, October 2: This will be given by Thomas L. Christiansen, Director CHTE, Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The topic will be “Current challenges and future opportunities within heat treatment of steel.”

Also, on Wednesday, the “Inoue Memorial Symposium on Quenching Technologies and Distortion” is scheduled. This symposium will honor Prof. Tatsuo Inoue, who died in September 2023. Prof. Inoue was instrumental in much of the modeling and development of thermos-mechanical coupling of phase transformation.

Third International Conference on Quenching and Distortion Engineering
May 6-8, 2025  I  Vancouver, Canada

The Third International Conference on Quenching and Distortion Engineering will be in conjunction with AeroMat 2025, May 5-8, also in Vancouver. This is a continuation of the successful Distortion Engineering conference series and the Quenching and Distortion conference series. The first QDE was in Chicago in 2012 and has continued at approximately five-year intervals. This conference has a strong focus on the effects of residual stress during manufacturing and methods to control distortion and residual stress.

Motion in Heat Treatment — Heat Treatment in Motion
Prague, Czech Republic I June 4-6, 2025

The Motion in Heat Treatment — Heat Treatment in Motion conference is the fifth in its series. This conference is sponsored by AZTK (ASOCIACE PRO TEPELNÉÉ ZPRACOVÁNÍ KOVU) and will be at the Kaiserstein Palace in Prague. This event follows the 3rd conference that was in Prague in 2016 and the 4th conference in Spartanburg, South Carolina. While the previous focus of the event was primarily on automotive applications, the focus has been widened to all transport applications including automotive, rail, and aircraft and marine applications of heat-treated and surface-engineered components. The event is combined with the European Conference on Heat Treatment.
