Tenney Environmental, a division of Thermal Product Solutions, has shipped a UTC series reach-in test chamber and a remote testing chamber to the electronics industry. These test chambers are designed to condition electronic tilt sensors.

This test chamber has an operating temperature range of 0°C to 50°C when being used as an air conditioning system but has a range of -68°C to 180°C when being used as a chamber. The construction of the chamber includes a combination of fiberglass and polyurethane insulation surrounding the chamber to maximize insulating characteristic.

This specially designed model UTC test chamber can be used as either a reach-in test chamber, or as a conditioning air system (CAS) for a remote testing chamber. The remote test chamber consists of an insulated enclosure with interior dimensions of 20” H x 20” D x 20” H, and a single front-mounted hinged chamber door. Supply and return 4-inch diameter, 12-inch long insulated airflow ductwork connects the CAS and the remote test chamber. Unique conditioning specifications are defined for each operational mode.

“Our customer contacted us with an application which involved the temperature conditioning of electronic tilt sensors. Due to the sensitivity of the sensors, there was concern the vibration levels generated by the chamber compressors would affect their accuracy. To alleviate their concern, we provided a test chamber with a CAS (conditioned air supply) package and a remote enclosure to condition the sensors and eliminate the vibration concern,” said Jeff Comitz, applications engineering manager.

Features of this test chamber include:

  • 20-gauge stainless steel interior.
  • Watlow F4T with INTUITION temperature process controller.
  • TempGard IV over temperature protection control system.
  • Low-mass Nichrome, open-wire heating elements.
  • Two semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors.
  • Two additional three wire Class A RTD sensors to monitor temperature.
